We have just purchased two more lasers bringing our total laser count to seven. We have more lasers than most universities and more lasers than any other doctor’s office that I am aware of in South Florida. We are truly a “laser specialty center”. This month I am going to discuss one of our new lasers called the V-beam. We had been renting it for the last 10 years, but just bought a brand new one.
What does the V-beam treat?
The V-beam is the gold standard for treating red lesions on the skin. For example, we can treat broken capillaries and spider veins on the face (especially those annoying ones that appear around the nose). We can also treat red birth marks on children (and adults), red acne scars, and those little red dots that appear on your body called “cherry hemangioma’s”.
Spider veins: Face vs. Legs
While the laser works well for red and purple spider veins on the face (so well in fact that many spider veins are gone immediately, and we typically get a “wow” reaction after handing the mirror to a patient immediately after the treatment). The laser does not work well for spider veins on the legs because, among other reasons, these veins are deeper.
Attention ROSACEA patients: The most common thing we treat with the V-beam laser is rosacea. Treatment with this laser decreases the red face and flushing that most rosacea patients suffer from, as well as the broken capillaries and telangiectasia. There are studies showing that rosacea patients treated with the V-beam laser use less medication to control their disease and have fewer flare-ups. Remember, pills and creams are very effective for the pimples of rosacea, but only laser therapy treats the redness of rosacea.

Our New Laser for Sun-Damage
We have been using a fractional CO2 laser for the last few years to treat wrinkles and sun damage. This laser resurfaces the skin. It has been such a success in our practice that instead of continuing to rent it, we just bought one. Read about it on our website, and make an appointment to see if you are a good candidate!
