From Dr. Hosseinipour “If your skin reacts to something and the rash persists despite treatment, you may be experiencing allergic contact dermatitis. Allergic contact dermatitis is an itchy rash that occurs when the skin comes in contact with a substance such as metals, perfumes, or cosmetics. Patch testing is a diagnostic test used to determine which substances may be causing an allergic rash on a patient’s skin. It involves applying appropriately diluted allergens to the skin and monitoring for a reaction during a 48 to 96-hour time period.”
