The long wait for Restylane in the U.S. is over. Restylane is here! The FDA approved its use for the treatment of wrinkles in December of 2003. But this is not a new treatment for the rest of the world. Since 1996, more than a million people have been successfully treated in more than 60 countries worldwide.
What is Restylane?
Restylane is a crystal-clear, non-animal, biodegradable gel based on a natural substance, called hyaluronic acid. The gel is injected into the skin in tiny amounts with a very fine needle. The result is instantaneous and produces a long-lasting, natural enhancement, gentle and safe to your skin.
What Is Hyaluronic Acid?
Hyaluronic acid is a polysaccharide that is identical in all species and tissue types. It plays an important role in giving volume to the skin, shape to the eyes and elasticity to the joints. The use of hyaluronic acid is well documented in areas such as eye surgery and orthopaedics. In the last two decades more than 30 million people have been treated with hyaluronic acid-based products.
How does Restylane Compare to Botox?
This is a completely different way to treat wrinkles. Botox® relaxes certain muscles that make wrinkles, while Restylane “fills” wrinkles. Certain wrinkles will lend themselves more to one treatment than the other. Often though, a tough, deep wrinkle that won’t respond to either, will respond when both treatments are combined.
How long does Restylane last?
Restylane will last up to 6 months when injected into the lips and 1 year when injected into wrinkles. When Restylane breaks down, water takes its place. When totally absorbed, Restylane turns into water and carbon dioxide and disappears without leaving any trace in your body.
As we get older, the amount of hyaluronic acid in the skin diminishes. This can be demonstrated by squeezing the skin between the fingers. In young people, the skin rapidly restores itself to its original volume. However, as we get older, the ability of the skin to restore itself is reduced. The reduction in volume then leads to wrinkles . With Restylane, you can have a natural beauty lift with the body’s own material.
Botox® vs. Restylane | Juvederm vs. Restylane…how do I choose?
“The facility was very clean and professional. I did not wait long from when I check in until the doctor saw me. Dr. Wu and the staff were all great!”
