differential diagnosis (without atopic history):

in children:

seborrheic dermatitis
Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome
Hyper-IgE syndrome

 

in adults:

CTCL
contact dermatitis

 

 

atopic dermatitis (associated with):

ichthyosis vulgaris
Nethertons syndrome
(increased incidence in) anhidrotic ectodermal dysplasia

 

Treatment:

pearl - infected (crusted or pustules) atopic patients even non-infected patients may benefit as staph may act as a super-antigen improve with bleach baths (sig. 1/8 or 1/4 cup of bleach to a full bath tub of water)

acid mantle cream
wet dressing = wet cotton PJ's over topical steroid for 30 to 60 minutes (keep room warm)
