Immunodeficiency syndromes:

heterogeneous group of diseases in which the immune system does not develop normally
many of these patients have an increased susceptibility to malignancy
in addition, many have an increased incidence of  eczema for reasons that are not clear

Clinical differential diagnosis (all 3 show chronic eczematous dermatitis):

atopic dermatitis
Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome
Hyper-IgE syndrome

Other:

Leiner disease
epidermodysplasia verruciformis

Treatment:

Chediak-Higashi sx bone marrow transplant (early; before the accelerated phase takes place)
WAS Wiskott-Aldrich syndromebone marrow transplant (=cure)

Prognosis:

Chediak-Higashi sx death by late childhood (from overwhelming infection or hemorrhage during lymphoma-like phase)
CGD chronic granulomatous diseasenormal life span

SUMMARY:
