AKA pigmentary demarcation lines
abrupt transition from deeply pigmented skin to much lighter pigmented skin
commonly found in people with dark skin (are normal variants)
present at birth or develop in early childhood and tend to darken with time
5 types (A-E)
type A:   most common, extending from upper anterior arms across the pectoral area
type B:  next most common, found on posteromedial leg
