other than Giannoti-Crosti syndrome, the dermatologic features of HBV infection are mostly believed to be associated with immune complex formation:

 

Serum Sickness Syndrome

occurs in 20 to 30% of cases
usually a prodrome 1 to 6 weeks before onset of clinical hepatitis
clinically: urticaria and angioedema common,  petechiae or EM-like lesions in others,  arthralgias or arthritis and headache common
histology = vasculitis

 

POLYARTERITIS NODOSA

detect HbsAg ~ 10 to 50% of patients with PAN
immune complex mechanism for Hep B associated PAN

hepatitis A,E associated with exanthems
