Top  Previous  Next
AKA papular mucinosis
pathogenesis unknown

characterized by:

1.a papular lichenoid eruption
dome-shaped papules
lesions may be densely grouped in a lichenoid fashion or may show a linear arrangement
dorsa of the hands and fingers, the axillary folds, and the external surface of the arms and legs
coalescence of the papules on the face, particularly in the glabella area, results in longitudinal folding, giving the appearance of leonine facies
ddx: (other deposition diseases) lichen amyloid, colloid milium (? juxtaclavicular beaded lines, hamartoma moniliformis??)

2.paraproteinemia
usually an IgG with lambda light chains
is not a plasma cell dyscrasia
no association with multiple myeloma (paraprotein of multiple myeloma is usually a monoclonal IgG with kappa light chains)
mnemonic = PML (papular mucinosis with lambda light chains)

3.mucin in the dermis

scleromyxedema: a clinical variant of papular mucinosis in which the disease is more generalized and is accompanied by erythema and sclerosis
