AKA mucous cyst of the oral mucosa
results either from a ruptured mucous salivary gland duct or from retention of mucous due to obstruction of a duct
not a “true cyst”:  granulation tissue and sialomucin form a papule
often the result of minor trauma
also occur in patients with cheilits glandularis: a condition in which the labial mucous glands and ducts are hyperplastic
