cowpox always painful, and local LAN, patients are systemically ill until the eschar stage; scarring is common  (vs. milkers nodule not painful, and adenopathy is rare)

Parapox

molluscum

 

farmyard pox collective term for orf and milkers nodule because both are related parapoxviruses of sheep and cattle with identical clinical and histologic features:   usually a solitary lesion on the finger;  resolves in one month without treatment (symptoms are milder than cowpox)

orf (ecthyma contagiosum) a misnomer in a sense because it is not contagious from person to person sheep or goat farmers
milkers nodule (AKA pseudocowpox or paravaccinia) milkers or veterinarians

 

mnemonic:  parapox gives you paravaccinia and the "milder" diseases vs. orthopox with are "O" so serious
