sun-damaged skin shows hypertrophy of elastic tissue, secondary to a prolonged inflammatory process
(in contrast, aging “normal” skin becomes atrophic, with fewer elastic fibers)
clinically the skin is thickened, cobblestoned, and yellow

 

variants:

striated beaded lines - small yellow papules and plaques along the sides of the neck (the result of sebaceous hyperplasia)
fibroelastolytic papulosis (of the neck) AKA PXE-like papillary dermal elastolysis
