  often present at birth (even in utero)
benign; uncommon disorder seen primarily in black infants
TRANSIENT:  quickly ruptures and leaves a typical collarette
NEONATAL PUSTULAR:  the original lesion is a vesicopustule very superficial (can wipe off), which may be present at birth (even in utero)
MELANOSIS: brownish pigmented macules develop at the site of each resolving pustule
trunk, palms, and soles; asymptomatic and self-limiting
scraping (Tzank) of pustule à PMN’s (= polymorphic nucleocytes: AKA neutrophils)
ddx: erythema toxicum neonatorum, viral infections, IP, staph impetigo
