Uses:

1.Hypo- vs. de- pigmented (if milk white then depigmented, if just lighter than skin, then hypopigmented)
2.To rule out erythrasma in intertrigo
-corynebacterium, produce porphyrins
-porphyrins under Woods lamp = coral red fluorescence
3.tinea capitis in children (some species of microsporum fluoresce yellow-green on Woods lamp)
4.urine from a patient with PCT shows orange-red fluorescence
5.in melasma:  to distinguish epidermal from dermal pigment (epidermal pigment is accentuated by Woods lamp)
