tender palms and soles
2-12 days after chemotherapy
daunorubicin, cytarabine (ara-C), hydroxyurea, 5-fluorouracil, methotrexate
toxic process (necrosis of keratinocytes)

 

therapy:

pyridoxine, local therapy, topical steroids, cool compresses
(cyclosporine increases pain, IV prednisone increase infection)

 

ddx:

difficult to differentiate from GVHD in bone marrow recipient
but totally different treatment; GVHD treatment includes systemic steroids and cyclosporine
erythromelalgia
acrodynia (mercury poisoning)
in children: Kawasaki (check perineum)
