Elastic Tissue Disorders

Top  Previous  Next

Loss of elastic tissue:

Anetoderma (focal elastolysis)
Cutis laxa (generalized elastolysis)
granulomatous slack skin

Elastic tissue disorders:

Actinic granuloma (elastoclasis)
PXE* (generalized elastorrhexis with calcification)
Buschke-Ollendorf syndrome* (collagenomas with osteopoikilosis)
Marfan syndrome (fibrillin elastic fibers are composed of an elastin core wrapped by microfibrils (which are composed of fibrillin))**
Solar elastosis
Elastofibroma dorsi
Elastosis Perforans Serpiginosa
acrokeratoelastoidosis

*PXE and Buschke-Ollendorf lesions may look similar clinically

**Marfan affects skin, eyes, and cardiovascular system (like PXE)

Other:

erythema ab igne:  histology =  increased elastic fibers (but different from solar elastosis because seen only with elastic stain, not with H&E)

elastic tissue stains = Voerhoff van Giesson
