•60 to 80mg Q 7 to 8 weeks (or longer)
•muscle (not SQ) to avoid sterile abscess or atrophy of fat
•prolonged relief from itching

 

conditions that may respond:

•alopecia totalis
•hand eczema
•central centrifugal cicatricial alopecia
•generalized GA
•chronic urticaria

 

 

conditions that do NOT respond:

•Grover's disease

 

expected side effects:

•petechia and purpura
•menstrual irregularities
•mild hyperglycemia (5 to 7 days)  (OK in diabetics)
•NO weight gain
•NO psychiatric symptoms

 

 

Callen says:  threshold for osteoporosis prophylaxis is prednisone 5mg/ day or greater (therefore IM kenalog 40mg/ month does not require prophylaxis)
