organism: Sporothrix schenckii a dimorphic fungi
histology:  rarely see spores on biopsy
culture:  Sabarouds -  culture at 37ºC reveals yeast, while culture at 25ºC reveal branching hyphae  i.e. dimorphism  (does not grow at 39ºC, therefore some recommend pyrotherapy)
primary inoculation common (classic history = rose thorns pricking the skin)
treatment = potassium iodide
mnemonic:  if you are going to POT roses, you might buy some POTassium iodide
ddx:  atypical mycobacterium
