Squaric acid for alopecia areata (per Dr. Kirsner):
1st sensitize w/ 2% solution on small area on scalp or arm. Almost all pts get sensitized. Apply and do not wash off.
| • | Then have patient come back in 1 month, first apply 0.001% soln on scalp lesions (apply and do not wash off) and return in 1 week. |
| • | If mild dermatitis occurred, c/w weekly for 8 weeks, if not, increase in strength weekly until patient gets the mild dermatitis. |
| • | If no response in 8 weeks, the treatment is not working, change therapies. |
