STAPH or STREP:

cellulitis

erysipelas

impetigo contagiosum

toxic shock syndrome

 

STAPH:

bullous impetigo

folliculitis/furuncles/carbuncles

staph scalded skin syndrome

staphylococcal whitlow (felon)

botryomycosis

hyper IgE (Job's syndrome) are more susceptible to staph infections

 

 

phage group 2 type 71:  causes both bullous impetigo and SSSS (toxin = exfoliatin)

 

Staph prophylaxis:

neosporin to nares is effective staph prophylaxis
bleach baths = 1/8 or 1/4 cup bleach in full bath tub (or 15 minutes per week in swimming pool)
use freshly laundered towels after bath (to prevent re-colonization)
